Who We Are

Troop 1 in Savannah, GA is a member of Scouting America’s Coastal Georgia Council.  Troop 1 was first chartered in 1929. Our current charter organization is the First Presbyterian Church

Our regularly scheduled meetings take place there at 520 Washington Avenue on Tuesday nights at 6:30.

We are currently the largest Scouting troop in this region of Georgia. Our membership consists of about 45 Scouts and over 20 adult leaders. Our scale provides us with the resources to offer extensive outdoor and educational programs.

Co-Ed Scouting

As of 2017, the Boy Scouts of America began admitting young women into the program. To accommodate this policy, Troop 1 created the structure of two linked troops…Troop 1B for boys and Troop 1G for girls. We meet at the same time, and share the same excellent executive committee, but have different Scoutmasters and often split off to do different activities.

For more on how linked troops work, see this article.

What We Do

Our Troop typically has a campout one weekend each month throughout the school year at various locations throughout Georgia and neighboring states.  Over the summer months, Scouts can attend summer camp for one week each summer (usually around the end of June), rotating between the Council’s Black Creek camp and other sites around the region.  The Troop also does other activities throughout the year, from attending Savannah Bananas and Ghost Pirate games to local group hikes and bike rides.

Troop 1 also participates in community service projects as well as a variety of service projects throughout the year to assist prospective Eagle Scouts from our Troop in achieving their goal.
